Join us in honouring a true geological legend — Dr. James (Jim) Christopher — as we celebrate his 100th birthday! Best known for his groundbreaking work on the Bakken Basin in 1961 and for naming the now-prominent Torquay Formation, Jim’s contributions to Saskatchewan geology are nothing short of extraordinary.
Jim dedicated over 50 years of service to the Saskatchewan Department of Mineral Resources.
He authored numerous influential geological reports and maps that remain in use today.
He was a mentor to generations of geologists, recognized for his humility, generosity, and unwavering passion for the field.
His legacy includes receiving some of Canada’s most prestigious geoscience honours, such as the:
• CSPG Honorary Membership (1996)
• RJW Douglas Medal (2013)
• APEGS Outstanding Achievement Award (2020)
Come raise a glass, enjoy appetizers and speeches, and celebrate this milestone with birthday cake and cherished colleagues. All are welcome!
Let’s come together to honour the man behind the maps — and the many unforgettable memories he has given our geoscience community.
